Adults are about 33 to 36 mm long. In Japan they live in flat forests and city green spaces in the east, and in higher-altitude mountains in the west.

Where it lives

In eastern Japan it prefers flat forests and urban green areas; in western Japan it favors mountainous regions at slightly higher elevations. In China it is common around Beijing and especially Dalian.

When you see it

First calls have been recorded by the Japan Meteorological Agency up to 2020. The earliest emergence in recent years is around mid-July in Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture.
